A Woman's Book of Strength is not your ordinary "Here's how I do MY workout book." Although it does give very clear and detailed instructions for exercing with weights and machines, I found the book to be Andes's personal philosphy on the "whys" of getting stronger more so than the "hows."

Andes, whose biggest claim to fame is probably as Cher's personal trainer and co-owner of Gold's Gym in Marin County CA, dicusses her journey into the world of weight-lifting and goes into many of the fears that women have concerning getting stronger. She gives practical advice on such topics as posture, range of motion, reps, gyms etiquette, motivation, and nutrtion. I brought the book because of her essay comparing training to being in love.

I believe many women can relate to this book. At times, it got a little much on the "New Agey" side for me, and advanced lifters may not get much out of the exercise section, but I still recommend to them for the encouragement. Besides, it's not a big investment, and men can glean some good advice from this book as well.
