The shoulder shrug is an exercise in weight training. The lifter stands erect holding either a barbell or two dumbbells with an overhand or mixed grip. The hands should be about shoulder width apart. The bar hangs down in front of the thighs. To execute the exercise, the lifter raises the shoulders as high as possible, and then lowers them, while not moving the arms or body at all.
